Noticing Beauty in the Moments

We have learned many lessons while living life on the spectrum; some profound, some simple, but all important. I’ve written before that one of these lessons is to appreciate even the smallest moments. I have hoped that our children would also pick up on these lessons over time as well and I think our oldest three have, but tonight, we got evidence that even Ben has come to appreciate the beauty in the world around us.

While driving to an event at our church tonight, Ben very thoughtfully said to his dad, “Just look at the colorful sunset,” and it was – Colorful and beautiful. The sunset. The moment. All of it. It was just another moment of another day, but it was a colorful moment, in which our son noticed beauty and shared that moment with his dad. I can’t think of anything much more perfect.

There is little more beautiful to me than watching my children playing together against the background of a setting sun, hearing them laugh and giggle together, and melting under their hugs.
